PATAGONIA SUSTENTABLE

Oil activity

the INTA (NATIONAL INSTITUTE of FARMING TECNOLIGIA) makes activities that tend to you recover the areas degraded by the different antrópicas activities.
In this work appropriate technologies for the recovery of mallines degraded by means of different techniques from sowing are developed.
As of the decade of the 90, they introduce to these activities the rehabilitation of sites disturbados by the petroliferous activity.
An agreement between INTA e YPF S.A. was signed. in 1993, that it looks for to prevent, to mitigate and to rehabilitate by means of the creation and adaptation of appropriate technologies for the impact produced on the ecosystem by the oil activities.

WHAT LOOKS FOR WITH THE AGREEMENT:

? To determine the degree of deterioration of the ground affected by petroleum spills and other disturbances of the oil activity.
? To establish the treatments and workings that the grounds must be put under to diminish and/or to attenuate the level of contamination, compaction and encontramiento, that makes sure the reestablishment the vegetal cover.
? Revegetar the areas affected by means of workings that favor the natural repoblamiento and the application of adapted native and/or exotic species to the conditions of the regions.
? To implement with appropriate and extensive technologies the profits reached to experimental scale.

REGIONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

The climate of patagonia presents/displays two important climate tips:
Rains, that are decreasing from the west to the east, and the one of decreasing temperatures from the northeast to the Southeast.
In winter the temperatures are under 0º C and reaches values superior to 30ºC in the months of summer (the great thermal variety is characteristic in all the region).
The precipitations annual average are of 243 mm that mainly concentrate in the period autumn-winter.
Something that he is very characteristic of the region, is the strong originating winds of the west, with a speed average that varies between 15 and 22km/h, with maximums between you rock of September and January.
These climatic characteristics give origin to a arbustivas and graminosas steppe vegetation.

GROUND CHARACTERISTICS OF the GULF OF SAN JORGE (OIL RIVER BASIN OF the CHUBUT REGION)
In grounds located in the Gulf San Jorge, it is common to find characteristics very noticeable of salinization and sodificación. They are deep, of heavy contextures, with high content of organic matter and different degrees from hidromorfia in the zone.

ECONOMIC IMPORTANCE:
The oil activity, is one of the pillars of the regional development as much by the generation of its income, like by its social and cultural consequences.
In the region are 3 of the 5 oil river basins in present operation of the country: Neuquina, Gulf San Jorge and Austral. These represent 80% of the reserves of the country. The Gulf San Jorge represents 30% of the patagónicas hydrocarbon reserves.

By the end of LET US HELP to OUR

ECOSYSTEM the last century, our earth were given to European Creoles and who began the colonization of the ample patagónicos spaces. During the occupation by the cattle activity in the last one hundred years, one went causing the progressive deterioration of the diverse ecosystems, deterioration that has been worsened 40 years in the last.
Nowadays in ours patagónia, we are crossing by a process that directly affects the loss of the productive capacity. This process is called desertificación, and damages to barren, semi-arid regions and subhumid droughts due to the taking of steps of on pasturing, oil activity, among others.
More of 90% of this region desertificación has some degree. Bond to say, that we can find desertificación serious (30.7%), average (57%) and weighs (6.6%). In the zones of slight desertificación the damage can be reverted, but lamentably, these are minority.
The desertificación not only affects where it happens, but also to the fauna of herbívoros that serves as sustenance the people of the region.
It is why from our school, (Provincial School Nº 747, National School of Trelew), we are working in a project to change the situation in the zones with slight desertificación, created in the area of “Project of Investigation and Communitarian Intervention” in charge of the educational Juan Ignacio González Mazziotti. For it, a zone was chosen that was affected by a great fire 5 years ago, which destroyed the vegetal cover. This field is located to 10,5 km. to UNDER of the city of Trelew, Province of the Chubut, Patagónia Argentina.
This project began in 2007, with a series of previous studies to take the right and necessary measures, and, thus to carry out the project and to cooperate with the mitigación. The provision of seeds was managed with the INTA (National Institute of Farming Technology) to be able to make seedtime. Soon, it was come with seedtime in breeding grounds of plants of native shrubs (Grindelia filaginoides chiloensis, Senecio and Atriplex lampa), followed of the maintenance and taken care of of the same ones, and with a permanent observation of the development of the same ones. At the moment, we are carrying out the rustificación process, which had beginning in January of the 2008.
In September 2008 a new sowing with the same species was made.

With this project we want to create conscience of the serious situation of our ecosystem to all the population, so that together to we learn to preserve and to use of responsible way our natural resources. And this way to obtain, with the work of all, favorable results that, of course will benefit to us widely. It is by that today we left to the call of the society for takes part with our project contributing ideas and so that they help us to make specific them.
